Assignment 2-2: The Machine Stops

• Did anything in this story feel familiar? Did anything seem distant or difficult to understand?

• A: It's very related to our current circumstance. Quarantine life is very similar to the machine Vashti and Kuno lived in. Social life is prohibited in the story. people are communicating through machine like us using zoom and chatting software. One thing is kind of different which we cannot depends on the machine/robot all the things like the story said. In the story, nothing cannot be done by the machine. Our reality is we can ask google home/alexa/robots to do something but not everything. We are still in charge of smart technology but in the story is reverse.

• Why do you think we would we read such a story in a computer programming class?

• A: I think it's good to read this story to better understand the pros and cons of computer programming/computer science and getting deep thoughts/ideas about how it is going to change human life style, etc.
